BOUCHERCON BUSINESS MEETING
WASHINGTON, DC
NOVEMBER 2, 2001
6:00 PM

The meeting was called to order to Chair Thom Walls at 6:10 p. m.

Standing Committee Members Present: Rebecca Bates; Adolph Falcon; Theodore B. Hertel, Jr.; Deen Kogan; Gary Warren Niebuhr; Willie Siros;

Chair Walls called for any public comment.

A suggestion was made to create two new Anthony Award categories to honor Phyllis White: one for children’s literature, one for young adult literature. The Committee agreed to discuss this under changes to the Standing Rules.
A question was raised about the 2004 site bid and was referred to New Business.
A suggestion was made to create a separate committee to review future site bids.

Chair Walls called for reports from the current chairs
Adolph Falcon reported on the current convention
Willie Sirros reported on the 2002 Austin convention
Deen Kogan reported on the 2003 Las Vegas convention

Committee members Maggie Mason and Tom and Enid Schantz arrived at 6:20 during this discussion.

Chair Walls noted that there were no current changes before the Committee regarding the By-laws.

Chair Walls asked for a discussion on the suggested Standing Rule change to create two new Anthony Award categories to honor Phyllis White: one for children’s literature, one for young adult literature.
Niebuhr moved, Walls seconded, a motion to create an Anthony Award category called the Phyllis to honor children’s and young adult fiction in the memory of Phyllis White.

Chair Walls asked for discussion on the suggested committee to review future site bids. A discussion was held but there was no action taken.

Chair Walls called for any Old Business. There was none.

Chair Walls called for any New Business.
Al Navis made a presentation regarding a bid to host the 2004 Bouchercon in Toronto.
Niebuhr moved, Walls seconded, a motion to approve Toronto as the site for the 2004 Bouchercon.

It was noted that Austin will have the responsibility to choose a site for 2005 (now considered open) and the next Western region site at its Bouchercon.

Chair Walls called for nominations for member-at-large to serve from 2002-2004.
Al Navis moved, and Bryan Barrett seconded, a motion to elect Thom Walls as member-at-large.
